Fire Risk Assessment (FRA)

The purpose of the FRA, is to reduce the risk of fire, identify the people at risk and the general fire precautions required to keep people safe e.g. ‘Relevant Persons’.

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 was introduced in October 2006. Fire and rescue authorities and other bodies (‘enforcing authorities’) have a duty to enforce fire safety in non-domestic premises.

Fire Risk Assessments for Educational Premises

Our Fire Risk Assessments are for all employers, head teachers, governors, vice-chancellors, occupiers and owners of educational premises. As the 'responsible person' of a school, college, university, Sunday school, academy, crèche, adult education centre, after-school club, outdoor education centre or music school, you are the person who has legal responsibility for the fire safety in the building. It is highly important that as a responsible person you are in charge of overseeing the safety of everyone in the building.

Rutlish School is a large eight form entry, voluntary controlled boys’ Comprehensive School in the London Borough of Merton with a roll of approximately 1,300 (including Sixth Form) In May 2012 the school received a ‘Notification of Deficiencies’ order from the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority which required immediate action.

Outline of the proposal and the service we delivered:

FCMS were employed to review Fire Provisions such as Fire Risk Assessment Strategy, Fire Policy, Emergency Planning arrangements and Fire Training requirements in order for the School and PFI to address the deficiencies identified in the order. FCMS continue to serve Rutlish School carrying out the annual Fire Compliance Review and their training requirements.

The collaborative approach of the consultant ensured that stakeholders were engaged in the review process and encouraged to take ownership of specific aspects of fire safety which has resulted in a significantly improved and enhanced fire safety process at the School. The skills and knowledge of their lead consultant Pete Moulson was invaluable in ensuring all deficiencies noted in May 2012 were addressed, the threat of further enforcement action was removed and compliance with the Fire Safety Order was achieved having successfully passed the scrutiny of an Official Fire Safety Audit conducted by London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority on the 1st November 2012.
