The purpose of the FRA, is to reduce the risk of fire, identify the people at risk and the general fire precautions required to keep people safe e.g. ‘Relevant Persons’.

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 was introduced in October 2006. Fire and rescue authorities and other bodies (‘enforcing authorities’) have a duty to enforce fire safety in non-domestic premises.

Fire Risk Assessments for Factories & Warehouses

We provide Fire Risk Assessments for all employers, managers, occupiers and owners of factories and warehouses. Morven Healthcare Limited. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) prosecuted care home company Morven Healthcare Limited for shocking fire safety failings at Morven House, in Kenley, Surrey. The company admitted breaking fire safety laws and pleaded guilty to five offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order at Croydon Crown Court in May 2014. The home at the time housed 17 residents including elderly people with dementia and disabilities.

17 weeks in prison

Pub landlord, Tony Stearman of The Poachers Inn, Ide, has been sentenced to 17 weeks in prison (suspended for 18 months) after failing to ensure his pub met fire safety standards. He pleaded guilty to five offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 at Exeter Magistrates on Tuesday 2 April 2019. Mr Stearman was also ordered to pay £5,000 in costs to Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service (DSFRS) and a victim surcharge of £115.

Mr Stearman Understood The Need For A Fire Risk Assessment, Yet Failed To Comply With The Requirements Of The Fire Safety Order By Ignoring Advice From Those He Had Appointed To Assist.
24 week prison sentence

A landlord has been given a suspended prison sentence following a fire at an HMO in Preston, Lancashire. Valli Patel, 74, was ordered to pay £18,455 in fines and costs, in addition to a 24 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to 7 charges under The Fire Safety Order.

A Morecambe hotelier, Syed Masood Ahmed has been sentenced to 8 months imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, after pleading guilty to 12 charges under the Fire Safety Order. The charges were brought following an inspection by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service

The Case Involved Numerous Fire Breaches Found At Sunny’s Inn, 31 West End Road, Morecambe, Which Was Operated As A Hotel And House Of Multiple Occupancy.

A Morecambe hotelier, Syed Masood Ahmed has been sentenced to 8 months imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, after pleading guilty to 12 charges under the Fire Safety Order. The case involved numerous fire breaches found at Sunny’s Inn, 31 West End Road, Morecambe, which was operated as a hotel and house of multiple occupancy. Sentencing Ahmed at Preston Crown Court, Mr Recorder Duck QC stated that Ahmed had taken a calculated gamble which had placed employees and residents at risk of death or serious injury and despite numerous visits by the fire service, which had resulted in enforcement notices and action plans.
